One Month Ain't Enough Eastman

Meltdown Comics hosts epic tribute to Heavy Metal magazine's main man.

You don't show your love for a comic legend like Kevin Eastman by sending him some balloons and a heart-shaped box of chocolates. For the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and editor/publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, you go a little bit further. Sunset shop Meltdown Comics has got the right idea; November 30th sees the start of Lost Angeles: Thirty-Five Days with Kevin Eastman in their new gallery exhibition space.

After an early-life run in with a cannister of radioactive ooze, Eastman was transformed into a pop-culture taste-maker of monster proportions (who really loves pizza). Or maybe we're thinking of one of his creations. We'll get our facts straight on Wednesday when the first of five consecutive Meltdown Comics Gallery exhibitions opens up. On display will be all things TMNT, including original artwork from the first issues up through the IDW re-launch, with a rare glimpse at items from Eastman's private collection. Following that show will be original paintings from Underwhere on Dec. 7th, Biz an Buzz comic book and TV series concept art on Dec. 14th, the Lost Angeles collector's book premiere on Dec. 21st and finally a Heavy Metal 35th anniversary celebration on Dec. 28th. That's what we call finishing with a bang.

Each opening night will bring Eastman into the gallery for signings, exclusive new announcements and five proper parties with special guests, rare screenings, auctions, art demos and more. Not to mention Eastman's actual LA studio, which will be re-created inside of the gallery, used for the month of Lost Angeles and then sold off to the highest bidder. If that sounds crazy, it is. Crazy like a man-sized turtle named after a Renaissance painter who wields nunchuks. Crazy-awesome.
